2007 NBA Finals

Friday, June 08, 2007

The much awaited 2007 NBA Finals starts today. This time San Antonio Spurs (Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker) will take on black horse Cleveland Cavaliers (LeBron James, Daniel Gibson and Zydrunas Ilgauskas) . I know Spurs is the better team between the two but I'm betting my money on Cavs (I like underdogs).

Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

The title "The World Awaits" is no exaggeration for the upcoming fight of Oscar De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) and Floyd Mayweather Jr (37-0, 24 KOs) this coming Sunday (Philippine time). This is the kind of fight boxing fans should not miss. Yesterday, I bought a ticket for Php300 to watch live on the big screen (SM Megamall).

I think Floyd Mayweather will win this fight. After all, he is considered the best pound-for-pound fighter and way better than Manny Pacquiao. Check out some of Mayweather's fight via YouTube.

Our very own Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista (22-0), who is considered as the next Manny Pacquiao, will face Argentinean Sergio Medina (28-0) and AJ Banal (12-0) to Mexican Juan Rosas (25-2).

Update 1: AJ Banal wins via 8-round unanimous decision over Juan Rosas

Update 2: Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista wins via 12-round unanimous decision over Sergio Medina

Update 3: Floyd Mayweather Jr. wins via split decision over Oscar De La Hoya

Pacquiao Wins; Viloria Disappoints... (Again)

Monday, April 16, 2007

As expected, Manny Pacquiao wins via TKO over Jorge Solis on the 8th round. I'm not totally impressed with his performance so I will give him just 3 out of 5 score.

Here are the videos of Manny Pacquiao vs Jorge Solis round 8th action (Video1, Video2)

Now, let's talk about Brian Viloria vs Edgar Sosa fight. Once again, Viloria disappoints Filipino fans with his very poor style of boxing. Nothing more to say.

Manny Pacquiao vs Jorge Solis

Friday, April 13, 2007

Our very own Manny Pacquiao will face the unbeaten and dangerous fighter Jorge Solis of Mexico on Sunday morning (Manila time) in San Antonio, Texas for the WBC International super featherweight title.

I opted not to watch this bout live on the big screen for two reasons: First, I'm not in favor of Pacquiao's decision to run as congressman in his home town and ticket price is too expensive in lieu of a 2 to 3 hours delayed telecast on TV which will be broadcast by GMA7.

I'm hoping that Manny wins this fight, a fight that is in the boxing arena and not in the political arena. Manny is a very popular boxer not only in the Philippines but around the world. It is a big shame for our country to have one of our lawmakers fighting on the ring. Imagine this, Michael Buffer introducing Manny Pacquiao:

"On the red corner weighing blah blah pounds...
 the #1 pound-for-pound fighter of 2006...
the fighting pride of the Philippines...
 the people's champ...
 the honorable congressman...
 Manneeeeeeeeeeee Pakkkkkkkk-yawwwwww"

Oh men! :p

Fearless: Barrera vs Marquez

Monday, March 19, 2007

Juan Manuel Marquez's dream of beating a big time boxer turned to reality yesterday as he trashes Mexican boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera via unanimous decision. It was a great match-up and one of the best (if not the best) for fight this year. The next question is who will Manny Pacquiao face next? In my opinion, if Manny wins his fight against Jorge Solis on April 14, he should fight Juan Manuel Marquez. If he loss, I think it is better to go with Barrera.

On the other news, Gerry Penalosa failed to dethrone World Boxing Council Super Bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon of Mexico with two judges scored the bout (119-109) and the third (120-108) for De Leon.

Fortunately, Filipino boxer Diosdado Gabi saves the day by defeating Colombian Antonio Cochero in the second round via a TKO.

Ginebra vs SMB Game 1 Tonight

Friday, February 09, 2007

My favorite Ginebra Gin Kings will face San Miguel Beermen in the Game 1 of their best of seven finals tonight. This promises to be an exciting series, even though I really want Ginebra vs Red Bull match-up in the finals. Need to go home early today :)

Golden Moment

Tuesday, December 12, 2006

After a disappointing loss in 8-ball finals, Antonio "Ga-Ga" Gabica finally secured Philippine's first gold medal in the 15th Asian Games in Doha Qatar after winning the 9-ball finals against fellow Filipino Jeffrey De Luna.

Our boxing bets Violito Payla and Joan Tipon also reached the finals of their respective divisions. I'm really happy and proud with our boxers despite of the BIG BLUNDER by our sport officials. Imagine this… our boxers need to share same pair of shirt and short!

Well, that is how our RESPECTABLE sport officials work. Why Philippines weren't able to join basketball? Ask the "TWO" basketball associations... get the point?

Sigh* sigh* sigh* :(

Anyway, our Wushu team is also doing well and they are expected to win more gold for the Philippines.

Here is the round-up of our medals:

A medal, Finally!

Friday, December 08, 2006

Philippines medal drought in the on-going 15th Asian Games in Doha Qatar ends yesterday with two of our Taekwando bets winning bronze medals. Kathleen Eunice Alora and Veronica Domingo gave their very best to win bronze in the Women's 47kg and 63kg division respectively.

Meanwhile, boxing flyweight Violito Payla is already assured of the bronze medal after stopping Jiltender Kumar of India. His next assignment is Bo Yang of China and if fortunate, he will face the winner of Thailand's Somjit Jongjohor and Katsuaki Susa of Japan match. Go for gold Payla!

Boom-Boom Tarat-Tarat!

Thursday, December 07, 2006

Aside from Manny Pacquiao, Bohol's pride Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista is one of the best Filipino boxers. At young age of 20, he has an impressive record of 21 wins with no loss. His win against the Brazilian champ last weekend sealed a title fight early next year which will be held here in the Philippines (hopefully). Some rumors suggest that he will also be featured in the Oscar de la Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather mega fight, the much anticipated boxing event next year.

Good luck to Boom-Boom and to all the Filipino boxers. Ituloy AngSulong Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista, Italy AngSulong!

Manny Pacquiao's impressive win over Mexican legend Erik Morales brought him to the Google News homepage!

Pacquiao KOd Morales in Round 3

Congrats Manny Pacquiao for another monster performance yesterday! The entire Cinema 2 of SM Megamall is shaking! It was a short but sweet win. Beating Erik Morales in that fashion is big shocker not only to his fans but to all boxing aficionados around the world. I would love to see a rematch between Pacquiao and Barrera. Another option is to face the two undefeated featherweights in the name of Valero and Guzman. A rematch with Marquez is also good to close the chapter of 3 great Mexican fighters.

Pacquiao vs Morales III

Tuesday, November 07, 2006

I got 2 tickets to watch Pacquiao vs Morales III live... not live as in live in Las Vegas (hehehe) but live in SM Cinema's pay-per-view through Solar Sports. Ticket cost is now P500. I think it is P100 higher compared to Pacquiao vs Larios fight.

If Manny wins, a rematch with Barrera is most likely to happen early next year.

World Pool Championship Fever

Monday, November 06, 2006

Our country is hosting World Pool Championship for the first time. It started last Saturday and will last until November 12. I've seen several games already including the one between our very own Efren "Bata" Reyes and Tony Crosby of United States. It was a shocking loss! The score was tied at 7 - 7. Reyes only needs to clear the 9-ball to win the match and kaboom! He missed it! He need to win his remaining games to proceed to the knockout stage.

Check out the latest news on World Pool Championship here.
